Rocky Point is a hamlet in the town of Brookhaven. Rocky Point is known for its historical role in radio and telecommunications. The American radio giant RCA launched an initiative called Radio Central in Rocky Point in 1921 to emit radio signals across the Atlantic. Many European nations received early Radio Central transmissions. Later, Rocky Point was the site of the first transatlantic commercial telephone transmitter, allowing transatlantic calls between London and New York. Rocky Point was also home to scientist Nikola Tesla's early research facilities.
